Week 2 Injury Report
Added on Sep 19, 2011 by Scott in
One more week into the 2011 NFL season means a new slate of broken bones and shredded ligaments. As with any other year, some teams have been ravaged while others remain relatively unscathed. Here’s a rundown of the bumps, bruises, breaks and sprains that will have the most significant impact on the season going forward.
Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) – A week after losing safety Eric Berry to a torn ACL, the Chiefs lost their do-all running back to the same injury. Both players will miss the entire season. KC has been outscored 89 to 10 in two games. At this point, they look like the frontrunners in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
Michael Vick (Eagles) – It didn’t take Vick long to suffer his annual injury. A third-quarter collision with is own offensive lineman resulted in a concussion that will likely sideline him for next week’s key showdown with the Giants. Until he passes the league-mandated baseline brain tests, it’s unclear when he’ll be allowed to play again.
Tony Romo (Cowboys) – The beleaguered quarterback suffered a fractured rib in the first half but was able to return and lead the ‘Boys to an overtime victory in San Francisco. He should be cleared for Week 3, although playing with a busted rib can be extremely painful.
Miles Austin (Cowboys) – Austin’s monster three-touchdown performance was overshadowed by him aggravating his strained hamstring in overtime. He could miss two or three games.
Felix Jones (Cowboys) – The oft injured runner separated his right shoulder, but played through the pain after being fitted with a harness. He’ll undergo an MRI today to determine how long he’ll be sidelined.
Arian Foster (Texans) – Foster’s triumphant return to the lineup lasted one half. For the third time in just over a month, he tweaked his wounded hamstring. Backup Ben Tate eclipsed 100 yards for the second straight game, so head coach Gary Kubiak probably won’t rush Foster back until he’s fully healed.
Nick Collins (Packers) – The Pro Bowl safety was taken from the field on a stretcher after awkwardly jamming his neck into Jonathan Stewart’s hip. Fortunately, he has movement in all his extremities. He’ll continue to be monitored throughout the week.
Malcolm Floyd (Chargers) – Floyd exited Sunday’s loss to the Patriots with a groin strain. He’ll likely be listed as day-to-day.
Eddie Royal (Broncos) - Royal left the game with a strained right groin. It looked pretty bad, so don’t be surprised if he misses a couple of weeks, at least. Denver’s receiving corps was so thin on Sunday, Tim Tebow was called upon to run routes during the game.
Asante Samuel (Eagles) – A dislocated finger required stitches to close, but Samuel returned to the game after leaving in the third quarter. He should be able to play in Week 3.
Aaron Hernandez (Patriots) – The second-year tight end suffered a sprained MCL and could be sidelined for two weeks.
Thomas Davis (Panthers) – First, Jon Beason. Now, Davis. For the third straight year, the linebacker tore an ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.
