Fantasy Football: Week 2 Value Picks
Added on Sep 15, 2011 by Scott in
Are injuries, committees and subpar performances infecting your fantasy teams? Did your supposedly loaded roster do a faceplant in Week 1? Are you panicking about who to start or sit? Well, relax. We’re here to ease your concerns and offer some quality value picks to help steer you toward victory in Week 2.
Rex Grossman (vs. ARZ) – In his last four starts, Rexy has tossed for 1,148 yards, nine touchdowns and only four interceptions. Did you see the Cards secondary last week? Cam Newton might as well have been throwing against high schoolers. Amazingly, Grossman is running Mike Shanahan’s system to near perfection. Expect at least 250-plus yards and two scores on Sunday.
James Starks (@ CAR) – The Packers offense is a scoring machine, so there’s no sensible reason to think the same Panthers defense that was torched by Chris Wells and Kevin Kolb will be able to hang with Aaron Rodgers and Co. Starks is clearly the team’s best runner. With the Green Bay defense holding Cam Newton in check, expect Starks to get the rock a lot while nursing a sizable lead.
Willis McGahee (vs. CIN) – It looks like oft injured Knowshon Moreno will be sidelined with a hamstring injury. That leaves McGahee as the primary ball carrier in John Fox’s run-first offense. The Bengals actually did a decent job against Peyton Hillis in Week 1, holding him to 87 total yards. Willis won’t go nuts, but 70-80 total yards and a touchdown isn’t unreasonable.
Brandon Gibson (@ NYG) – Someone has to catch the ball from Sam Bradford now that Danny Amendola is out for at least a couple of weeks. Gibson led the Rams with 50 yards on 3 grabs versus the Eagles. He also drew a pass interference penalty on cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. The Giants secondary is beat up and vulnerable. If you’re desperate for a number three receiver, Gibson is a nice option.
Lions D/ST (vs. KC) – The Chiefs offense was dreadful last week. Matt Cassel averaged a paltry 5.4 yards per completion. Dwayne Bowe performed another disappearing act. Meanwhile, the Lions D notched two sacks, two forced fumbles, a pick and limited the Bucs to 315 total yards. If Detroit jumps out early, it will be another long afternoon for KC.
