A broken nose is painful, but at least in the case of the New York Jets’ Mark Sanchez it’s not a big deal. Sanchez broke his nose after being sacked by Oakland’s Kamerion Wimbley in the third quarter of the Jets’ loss to the Raiders on Sunday. He had his nose reset on the sideline and finished the game wearing a visor. He’s planning to wear the visor for the next few games for precautionary reasons.

Sanchez talked about his ‘broken beak’ on New York sports radio on Tuesday:

“It feels a lot better now, and we’ll just worry about it after the season. It’s no big deal.”

As far as broken noses go, Sanchez’s break is characterized as minor and he’s been cleared to practice without limitation and play against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night:

“We’ll take it game by game. We play in the elements out here, so I don’t know how well a visor holds up. I’ve never even thought about wearing a visor before. We’ll take it game by game, but I’m not worried about it either way.”

The least of his concerns is how the broken nose will impact his appearance–Sanchez was the cover boy for GQ Magazine’s special football issue a couple months back:

“I mean, if it’s a cosmetic thing, I don’t really care. I’ll break my nose every game as long as we’re going to win. I don’t care about that. It’s not a big deal.”

Sanchez also responded to comments by another ‘pretty boy’ Jets’ quarterback–that being Joe Namath who has criticized Rex Ryan for making his team ‘feel overconfident’:

“I respect Joe Namath to the fullest. He’s the most notable Jet of all time, the ultimate Jet, and I can understand why he would criticize the team like that, and I kind of see where he’s coming from as an outsider’s perspective. But you’ve got to understand that in this building, these guys prepare their tails off.”

With no concern about Sanchez’s status for Sunday, the Jets/Ravens game is on the NFL betting board. Baltimore is a -3′ point home favorite with the total set at 41.
