Another week into the 2011 NFL season and the injuries continue to pile up at an exceptionally high rate. Blaming the abbreviated offseason sounds logical on the surface, but this is football. Players are going to get hurt no matter if they had three months or three weeks to get their bodies ready for a grueling 16-game schedule. A few of these bumps and breaks will no doubt affect the Vegas betting lines for Week 4 and beyond. Let’s take a look.

Kenny Britt (Titans) – It’s believed the dynamic third-year receiver tore both the MCL and ACL in his right knee, which will end his season. It’s a huge loss for the 2-1 Titans. Britt had recorded 17 catches for 289 yards and three scores.

Michael Vick (Eagles) – Last week it was a concussion. This week it’s a hand ailment. Yesterday the team said it was bruised, then broken, now it’s bruised again. He’s being listed as day-to-day. However, trusting the Eagles injury updates would be foolish at this point.

Jeremy Maclin (Eagles) – The Eagles top wideout went down in the second half with a dreaded hamstring injury. He could be day-to-day or he could be out a month. Just ask Arian Foster.

Peyton Manning (Colts) – Team owner Jim Irsay publicly announced he doesn’t think Manning will play in 2011, thus confirming what everyone else already knew. Then Irsay backed off on his comments. Uh, Jim, Manning ain’t playing this year.

Kerry Collins (Colts) – The graybeard signal-caller pegged to replace Peyton suffered a concussion in the Sunday night loss to Pittsburgh. His status for next week’s game against the Bucs is uncertain. He’ll have to pass the league-mandated baseline tests before being cleared.

Antonio Cromartie (Jets) – The starting cornerback was diagnosed with bruised lungs after a fierce collision in the fourth quarter of yesterday’s game. Whether he misses any time will be determined later in the week.

Mark Sanchez (Jets) – He may or may not have suffered a broken nose. Either case he should be fine for next week’s showdown with the Ravens.

Bryan Bulaga (Packers) – The starting right tackle left yesterday’s win in Chicago with what head coach Mike McCarthy described as a “bruised knee.” An MRI could be forthcoming to rule out more severe damage.

Frank Gore (49ers) – The always banged-up runner played through a sprained ankle. His status for next week’s trip to Philadelphia remains a question.

Torrey Smith (Ravens) – The rookie wide receiver tore up a depleted Rams secondary to the tune of 152 yards and three touchdowns, but exited the game with a tight hamstring. He claimed he would be fine, but it’s a hamstring, so he’ll have to be monitored throughout the week.

Cody Grimm (Bucs) -The safety left the field via a cart after being struck by a helmet on his right knee. The team wasn’t clear about his future, but it didn’t look pleasant.

Jason Smith (Rams) – The right tackle exited the fourth quarter with an “undisclosed injury.” It’s not expected to be anything serious.

Aaron Williams (Bills) – A significant chest injury forced Williams to be removed on a stretcher. It’s not considered to be season-ending, although he’ll likely be out for at least a couple weeks.
