Tony Romo

Tony Romo earned a lot of points from Dallas Cowboys’ fans as he led the team to an overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers despite a broken rib and what was later diagnosed as a punctured lung. Clearly he’s a tough guy, but according to team owner Jerry Jones there’s no guarantee he’ll be under center when the Cowboys take on the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.

Romo’s punctured lung was discovered on Monday after an exam revealed pneumothorax ,or a collection of air or gas around the lungs. Jones said Romo’s pain level would determine his status for Monday Night’s game:

“I don’t know. I really don’t. I understand the nature of the injury as much as you can without being in medicine. We’ll just have to see how it goes. It has everything to do with just his ability to handle the pain, and we know he has a bunch of it.

“We’ll see how that goes. He’ll be monitored obviously extremely closely regarding the pneumothorax and we’ll see how it goes.”

Jones also indicated that it would be Romo’s call whether he was able to play or not:

“More important than anything, I think that you just have to depend upon in this case the player, in this case Tony’s sense of what his body is telling him. That’s what he did, and he ultimately, of course, was told to sit out when he came out but didn’t honor that. We allow players to give us those kinds of reads in most areas with the exception of your concussion area and your head area.”

Romo isn’t the only injury that the Cowboys are dealing with–#1 receiver Miles Austin reaggrevated a hamstring injury and has been ruled out against the Redskins. Here’s what Jones said about Austin:

“I’m probably pretty negative on Miles getting to play.”

Currently the Cowboys/Redskins game is off the NFL betting board at most sports books due to the questionable status of Romo. The Hilton Superbook in Las Vegas has the Cowboys installed as a -6′ point favorite with no total posted; Lucky’s Sportsbook has Dallas -5 with the total set at 46.
