NFL Football Betting: Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers
Added on Sep 13, 2011 by Jack Thurman in
The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to bounce back from an embarrassing road loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday as they welcome former USC coach Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks to town. The Seahawks were up to their old tricks, losing badly on the road at San Francisco.

There are few situations where its advisable to lay double digit pointspreads in NFL football betting. This may be one of them due to a convergence of factors. The Steelers were humiliated on opening day by their arch rivals the Baltimore Ravens. Nothing went well for Pittsburgh as Joe Flacco and company ripped their defense and the offense sputtered due in large part to an absurd number of turnovers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense will be fine and we expect their defense to come around as well. Defenses struggled across the league on opening day and Pittsburgh’s stop unit is admittedly getting older but they should have a field day against this class. Coming off one of their worst performances in recent history this proud Steelers team should be fired up which leaves the Seahawks in something of a ‘wrong place at the wrong time’ situation.
Compounding the Seahawks’ problems and enhancing our case for Pittsburgh is Seattle’s dismal performance pattern away from the ‘Jet City’. Since 2009, the Seahawks are an atrocious 3-15 SU and ATS on the road. They’re also 6-19 SU/7-18 ATS as an underdog. Those numbers strongly suggest that this is a team that not only doesn’t win on the road, but one that seldom puts up any sort of a competitive effort away from home.
The Seahawks have a ton of issues on offense–their best quarterback (Charlie Whitehurst) isn’t starting, their best receiver (Sidney Rice) is injured and their offensive line is porous and does a lousy job protecting the quarterback and run blocking. It’s hard to see them doing much against a talented and fired up Steelers’ defense. They also have problems on special team coverage (allowed two return TDs to Ted Ginn, Jr. last week) so that’s just another nail in their coffin. We’ll lean to the ‘Over’ since we expect the Steelers’ offense to score early and often but we don’t trust the Seahawks enough to hold up their end of scoring. We do, however, think this will be a Steelers’ massacre and look for them to win by 21+.
