Added on Dec 20, 2010 by John Petit in
Dana White has gone above and beyond yet again. This is so nice of Dana, and its not all that shocking. I mean, we hear all of the time of him dong nice things for fans and friends, but this is just an awesome story. It started with a post on Mixedmartialarts.com forum site, commonly known as the UG, from Ben Pittsley:
I recently visited Tiger Muay Thai and had the experience of a lifetime, But this is not about me, this weeks to live…Please donate and help save a life.
Mr. DANA WHITE,
is about SAVING THE LIFE OF A 4yr OLD GIRL! I had the pleasure of training with Kru Nai and meeting his family….When I returned home I learned that his daughter needs a LIVER TRANSPLANT or will die. the doctors gave 4 If you are a true ambassador for the sport. PAY FOR THIS SURGERY! Please help, no donation to small. The clock is ticking, contact TIGER MUAY THAI for details. Nai is the trainer in Roger Huerta’s HL Video. STEP UP Mr. WHITE, please save a life
Fighters, Fans, and Staff members told White of the post, and White went into action. A UFC employee, and member tot he site, posted the response “Dana will pay for the remaining funds needed for the surgery.” A member of Tiger Muay Thai then posted this.
“Just received confirmation that Dana White is the reason for the season. Monday morning he will be having his assistant contact Grainne Farrell of Lotus Medical to make arrangements for the payment of the Liver transplant operation. Amazing. DFW you have no idea how many people’s prayers you answered with this random act of generosity.”
Go ahead and be critical of the UFC, but never make it personal. It is more then obvious what kind of human being Dana White is. Fantastic story, and I can only hope this story has an even happier ending.
UFC 127 SOLD OUT!
Look out Canada, and there is a new country in line for the quick sell out records. UFC 127, which will be held in Sydney, sold out in just 30 minutes, equaling a record set this past June at UFC 115 in Canada. “UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch” will be happening on February 27, 2011 at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. Its the same venue that hosted UFC 110 which took place last February.
UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik said in a press release “We’re ecstatic. Tickets sold out literally as quickly as the Ticketek phone lines and website would allow, and that’s despite us working with our partners at Acer to add an extra 600 seats to the in-arena configuration we had at UFC 110. We will have just over 18,000 fans in attendance at UFC 127 in nine weeks’ time and expect to blow the roof off.”
He also talked about the popularity of the UFC in Australia, He said “The UFC’s popularity is exploding in Australia, even faster than we could have expected. Over the last 18 months, Australia has become one of the top three or four markets in the world for us. When you consider UFC programming is enjoyed by tens of millions of fans across 150 countries, that’s a big statement about the passion Australian sports fans have for the UFC.”
This is what the card looks like as of right now, there are a few more fights that are rumored, but they are still just strong rumors at this point.
UFC 127

Jon Fitch vs. B.J. Penn
Michael Bisping vs. Jorge Rivera
Dennis Siver vs. George Sotiropoulos
Chris Camozzi vs. Kyle Noke
Carlos Condit vs. Chris Lytle
Preliminary Card:
Alexander Gustafsson vs. James Te Huna
Tom Blackledge vs. Anthony Perosh
Jim Miller Wasn’t Kidding.
Jim Miller said after his last win he would be doing a lot more press about him deserving a shot at the title. He even admitted, that his “do the talking in the cage and not in the press” attitude probably cost him a shot sooner, but he has obviously learned from his mistakes. His record in and out of the UFC speaks for itself so its hard to say he hasn’t backed up these statements.
Miller was quoted saying “It’s a fact. The only guys that beat me, beat me by decision, and they’re No. 1 and No. 2. Edgar’s only loss is to Gray Maynard. Gray’s undefeated. My only two losses are to them. So why are there five, six, seven guys people always say between me and those top two guys? I feel that I should be right up there, and there’s no reason people shouldn’t have me as No. 3.”
Although I am happy that Miller is finally opening up, a little more than that plays into the rankings then just that. Off the top of my head, BJ Penn lost to Frankie Edgar. BJ clearly won the first fight, but clearly lost the second. Add in to the fact, that he just moved up in weight and knocked out a welter weight title contender in less than a minute, and you already have a pile of reasons why BJ is in front of Miller. That said, I’m glad Miller has seen the light on self promotion, and its this kind of talk that will get him a shot. He has a lot of momentum.
