We might be four years removed from their original clash, but its safe to say that current UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominic Cruz and MMA superstar Urijah Faber have been on each others minds as of late.
After losing via first round submission due to a guillotine choke, Cruz will get a chance to defend his title and avenge his 2007 loss on July 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in the main event of UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber 2.
“There is no love lost between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber and they are both fired up to not only fight again, but to fight for the UFC bantamweight title,” UFC President Dana White said. “The bantamweight division is one of the most exciting weight classes in this sport and Dominick and Urijah will both bring it for five rounds.
Faber is now 2-0 after making his bantamweight debut resulting in a first round submission win over Takeya Mizugaki followed by his UFC debut in March when he left UFC 128 with a unanimous decision over Eddie Wineland.
Since his loss to Faber at WEC 26, Cruz has gone unbeaten ultimately picking up the Bantamweight Championship with a win over Brian Bowles and then defending it twice, most recently against Scott Jorgensen.
The card also features a clash between Chris “The Crippler” Leben as he takes on Brazil’s Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva in a three round bout. Earlier in the event fans will witness former light heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz step into The Octagon with Ryan Bader as well as lightweights Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman. The PPV televised opener looks to be a welterweight battle between Dong Hyun Kim and Carlos Condit.
“Wandy came and asked for this fight and Leben wanted it just as bad,” White continued. “This is gonna be fun! When you add in the Siver-Wiman and Kim-Condit fights, and the fact that Tito will be fighting Ryan Bader to keep his career alive, it’s hard not to get excited for UFC 132.”
