UFC 123 to Take Place in Michigan; Former Champs Will Headline
Added on Sep 02, 2010 by Bill Jackson in
UFC president Dana White told MMAFighting.com that a deal has been reached to bring UFC 123 to The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan—a suburb of Detroit.
Former light heavyweight champions Lyoto Machida and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will headline the event. Both fighters are coming off highly publicized losses. Machida lost his title by first-round knockout to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 113, and Jackson lost a unanimous decision to now top contender Rashad Evans at UFC 114.
No fights are announced for the rest of the card yet, but now that the venue is set, the UFC will soon begin announcing the rest of the lineup.
This is the first time the UFC has been to the state of Michigan since UFC 9 in 1996.
Both fighters are in dire need of a win.
