UC 120 took place Saturday night in London England At the 02 arena. The event was broadcast on Spike TV, and was free for all UFC fans. The main event was Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama and the Co-Main was Dan Hardy Vs Condit. It was a night where three British fighters took on Americans, and the Americans were on the winning end. Below are the results and recap for the televised card. The quick results are below at the bottom.

James Wilks vs. Claude Patrick

The story of this fight was wrestling. Besides a little bit of offense in the third while Patrick felt out the reach, James Wilks had nothing for Patrick. Claude was able to take down Wilks at will, and was able to pass almost effortlessly when he wanted to. The crowd was anxious at the end, as this was the first fight on the live card, but it was really a fantastic showing by Patrick. Wilks did attempt a few submissions, especially in the third when he knew he was doomed, but that was almost the sum total of Wilks’ offense.

Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne

Travis Browne came out throwing hands with cruel intentions. He was jumping in and just unleashing, but Kongo was too quick to catch one. After about 3 minutes, Browne land a decent shot to the chin of Kongo, but Cheik recovered and was even able to put up some offense after he got used to the timing. Mostly in the form of leg kicks. Round two was mostly Kongo pressing Browne up against the fence in the clinch, and just working his legs with heavy knees. They paid dividends later in the fight, because Kongo had already figured out his timing, and they just made the strikes come in slower. Browne didn’t have much in the third round, and Cheick seemed to be on his way to a win. However, after previous warning from Referee Marc Goddard, Kongo had a point deducted for grabbing Browne’s shorts while in the clinch. This changed all the score cards, and the fight ended in a 28-28 Unanimous Draw.

John Hathaway vs. Mike Pyle

This fight was all Mike Pyle. In what would be the upset of the night, John Hathaway was controlled, and Mike Pyle won the easy decision. Hathaway landed some low kicks, and landed some body shots, but when Pyle wanted the fight on the ground, it went to the ground. I scored all the rounds as 10-9 Pyle, but I could easily see how round 2 could be called a 10-8 round for Pyle.

Carlos Condit Vs. Dan Hardy

Hardy and Condit both came out wanting to throw punches. They felt each other out for a few minutes, and the brawl started. Surprisingly, Carlos wasn’t going in for the takedown, but was very confident to stand and bang with Hardy. Then they both threw left hooks, but Carlos landed first, and Dan dropped to the cage floor. Carlos went in for the kill, landed a few more shots, and then put Hardy away at 4:27 in the first round.

Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama

Akiyama came out like he was going to walk through Bisping, and somewhere along the line the wheels came off. Bisping easily out struck Akiyama almost two to one. After the first round, it was like Akiyama’s strategy was to lead with his face, because he knew The Count couldn’t KO him. He was right, but the points added up on him fast, especially when Bisping really got his combinations going. Akiyama would land one or two, and Bisping would land four or five. I can easily see how the last round could have been a 10-8 round for Bisping, but the judges didn’t score it that way. Late in the third round, Bisping landed a groin kick that almost ended the fight, but Akiyama manned up and returned to finish the round. It was a good fight, because Akiyama is never in boring fights, but your strategy can’t be leading with your face if you can’t manage to put away your opponent.
