The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 finale was held this past Saturday night in Las Vegas, and crowned Jonathon Brookins the Ultimate Fighter winner. This is how the decision filled televised portion of the card went down.

Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan

Nam Phan controlled this fight, he won all three rounds, and he wont the fight. The only problem is that he lost the fight. Nam Phan beat Garcia this past Saturday night, and even Leonard admitted it in the cage. At the very least this was an egregious decision by the NSAC judges, and a decision that even prompted Joe Rogan to lash out at the judges (during the next fight.) It has even sparked on line petitions, and angry words from Dana White. Leonard Garcia looked frustrated the whole fight, and seemed to not have the answer for anything the Nam Phan was doing. He was literally picked apart by Phan, and should have won this fight 30-27.

Official scores: 29-28 Garcia, 30-27 Phan and 29-28 for Leonard Garcia, winner by split decision.

Aaron Wilkinson vs. Cody McKenzie

When someone has as many guillotine wins as Cody does, its hard not to predict that he could do it again. McKenzie ran in on Aaron, pressed him up against the cage, and pulled him to the floor. Little by little, he worked towards the guillotine. Aaron fought through one or two attempts, but was then force to tap when Cody locked it up tight. McKenzie does it again.

McKenzie defeats Wilkinson via Submission (guillotine choke) at 2:03 in Round 1.

Johnny Hendricks Vs. Rick Story
Hendricks kept up with Story in the first, but it was aggression by Story seemed to be a lot to deal with. Hendricks did manage to get the takedown in the end of the round, but Story popped right back up. Round 2 was close to the same thing, Story was winning the majority of the exchanges, and he even managed a takedown of his own. It really seemed as though Hendricks was having a hard time pulling the trigger. Not much happened in the third round, and for at least one minute there was no action at all with both fighters circling. Hendricks wasn’t able to get Story to the ground once or twice, and held story up against the fence for a little bit landing short elbows, but nothing significant happened. I scored it a 10-10 round, but the judges gave Story the Decision.

Official scores: All three judges see it 29-28 for Rick Story, the winner by unanimous decision.

Demian Maia vs. Kendall Grove

Maia really pressed the action on Grove, he landed a nice overhand left that got it all started, and was able to control Grove on the floor. He was glued to Kendall for the round, and gave him no room to create distance and use that huge reach. Maia even had him mounted at one point, and even thought Kendall managed to shuck him off, it was still sign of what was to come for the fight. It was a slightly better round for Grove in the second, but it was obviously Maia’s round. Maia got the takedown, and did some work from half guard but Kendall did get up. He was taken down again, but managed to stall Maia in his guard. The end of the round came with Maia on the back again of Grove, landing punches with a hook in. Again, not much action in the third round between Maia and Grove. Even though he didn’t seem to do much I would say Kendall squeaked out the round with a few jabs, and finally stopping the takedown of Maia.

Official scores: All three judges score the fight 29-28 award the bout to Demian Maia Unanimous Decision

Stephan Bonnar vs. Igor Pokrajac

Bonnar was back in American Psycho mode for this fight. He really brought it to Pokrajac in this fight. Pokrajac was smothered for almost the entire fight. In the first round, Bonnar came real close to finishing a guillotine choke, but Pokrajac showed some excellent defense and managed to get out of it. Pokrajac also managed a few solid strikes before Bonnar jumped guard for the choke attempt. Bonnar ended the round with a slick looking head kick. Bonnar started the second by landing some nice knees with Pokrajac in the Thai plum. He eventually pulls Pokrajac to the floor, but after some ground and pound Pokrajac scrambles to his feet. After stalling out against the fence, both fighters began winging punches in a flurry. Pokrajac manages to tag Bonnar, but Stephan closed the distance and muscled Pokrajac against the fence. After the round Referee Steve Mazzagatti deducts a point from Pokrajac for illegal knees landed to the head of Bonnar while the fighters were on the ground. The third round was much like the first, with Bonnar controlling Pokrajac on the floor a good portion of the round. At the end of the round and just before the bell, Mazzagatti steps in and deducts a point from Bonnar for landing two or three punches to the back of Pokrajac’s head.

Official scores: All three judges score the bout 29-26 in favor of Stephan Bonnar, the winner by unanimous decision.

Michael Johnson vs. Jonathan Brookins

Johnson came out in the first round on fire, and for at least a second or two, it didn’t look like Brookins had anything for him. Johnson was lighting him up on the feet, and there wasn’t much anything Brookins was able to do. He took dozens of punches, and Brookins seemed to have no interest in putting his hands up or moving out of the way. Johnson came close to a guillotine, but Brookins was able to sneak out of it, and stand up to get punched in the face more. The second round Brookins came out, and after eating a nice one-two from Johnson, he finally got him to the floor. Brookins doesn’t throw much, but the shots he was landing were viscous. Johnson scrambled back to his feet, but Jonathon came forward again, and put him back down. The round ended with Brookins trying to get a Kimura on the arm of Johnson. The third started the same way the second did. Brookins ate a few punches, and got the takedown. Johnson got back up again, and Brookins pulled guard and immediately swept him into side control. Brookins stayed busy on top for the rest of the round, and won the 12th season of TUF.

Official scores: The judges have it 29-28 (twice) and 29-27, all in favor of Jonathan Brookins, the winner of the twelfth season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

WOW!!! I saw the fight up to the middle of the second round, but I didn’t get a chance to see the rest of the fight. I thought Johnson had it in the bag because he’s so powerful, but I guess I was wrong. I’ve got nothing bad to say about Brookins at all, the dude is a BEAST!!! Congrats to Brookins and good luck to both fighters in their future fights. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of either one of them.
