Strikeforce event Diaz Vs. Noons II took place this weekend in San Jose, California, and aired on Showtime around the world. The main event featured a rematch between Nick Diaz and KJ Noons, but this time the middleweight strap was on the line.

The story in their last fight was about how Nick couldn’t take down noons, but was comfortable on the feet with him. Nick admitted his mistake was coming forward the whole time, and it lead to him getting a cut that stopped the fight after one round. Nick has stated publicly that he never counted it as loss, because he was far from done fighting.

Nick and KJ stood toe to toe for 5 rounds straight if you don’t count the last minute of the first round, where Nick was in side control, after dropping KJ with a left hook. Noons really seemed to come out in the second round, and brought the fight to Diaz. Diaz weathered the storm, and was even cut again in same spot as in their last fight. It was the only round most of the judges gave KJ. The rest of the fight it seemed like Nick was able to figure out KJ’s timing, and counter strike for the other four rounds.

I trained hard for this type of fight” said Diaz after the fight. “I wanted to stand and trade with KJ because thats his strong point. Thats what champions do.” Nick Continued “I trained to finish him, and I really wanted too, but no one can say it was a boring fight.”

It must be said, that Nick Diaz went out and fought the exact fight that KJ was looking for, and was still able to come out with a decision win. Nick Diaz retained the Strikeforce Welterweight Title with the scores of 48-47, 49-47, and 49-46 respectively.
