Strikeforce Henderson vs Babalu took place in St Louis, and was seen live on Showtime on Saturday night. A very successful night of MMA for Strikeforce that was filled with highlight reel making moments on a night where they were going head to head with the UFC. Below is how the main card went down in St. Louis.

Main Card

Light Heavyweight bout:

Benji Radach vs. Ovince St. Preux

Ovince St. Preux controlled Radach the entire 15 minutes. OSP dropped Radach early in the fight with a headkick, and from that point on it seemed like Radach was just in survival mode. The entire last 2:30 seconds of the first round, OSP was back riding Radach and pummeling the side of his head as he just laid there. Radach showed some heart by staying alive, but he had little or no offense for OSP. This is how the fight went as Radach was just outclassed by Ovince St. Preux. One of the judges even gave TWO of the rounds to OSP as 10-8.

St. Preux defeated Radach via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-25)

Heavyweight bout:

Antonio Silva vs Mike Kyle

Mike Kyle came out and pawed a few jabs out at Big Foot as he got his range, and then threw an overhand right that dropped Silva to the seat of his pants. Kyle came in and swarmed on Silva, but Big Foot kept his wits about him, and managed to survive the round. Kyle looked good coming and trying to finish the fight, and you could tell it was hard for him to show restraint while trying to end it. Silva kicked Kyle off of him, as the bell rang, but Kyle still won the round easily. In the second round Silva closed the distance on Kyle early, and after Kyle stuffed a shot, Silva rag dolls him to the floor. Silva nearly gets an anaconda choke on him, but Kyle survives and ended up on his back. Silva moved to mount, and put him away with punches until Kyle went limp.

Silva defeated Kyle via TKO (punches) at 2:49 of round 2

Middleweight bout:

Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Lindland

Lindland seemed to be the aggressor coming forward, and you can tell he was just trying to get his hands on Lawler to tie him up. Meanwhile, Lawler was uncorking huge punches and just barely missing Lindland. Lindland was just being careless walking in on Lawler like that, and Robbie made him pay. Lawler landed a viscous uppercut which he followed with a solid right hook that sent Lindland tot he cage floor. Lawler landed a left hand from top position that separated Lindland from consciousness.

Lawler defeated Lindland via KO (punches) at 0:50 of round 1

Welterweight bout:

Paul Daley vs. Scott Smith

I was a little confused by Scott Smith’s game plan coming into this fight. It seemed like Smith wanted to stand and trade with Daley, and you could tell right away it wasn’t going to work out well for him. Once Daley found his range he really started to pick him a part with real crisp hooks, and jabs. He stumbled Smith early that sent him to th seat of his pants, but smith got right back up and readjusted. Smith began pushing his jab in Daley’s face, and was really flat footed while doing it. Smith finally through pushed one too many, when Daley countered with a lead right hook that sent him face first into the cage floor.

Daley defeated Smith via KO (punch) at 2:09 of round 1

Light Heavyweight bout:

Dan Henderson vs. Renato Sobral

After a short process of measuring each other up, Henderson came in looking to tie up Babalu. Babalu created some distance, and started mixing low kicks up with push kicks. Henderson closes in throwing punches but Sobral ducks under the shots, and goes for the leg of Hendo. Hendo Spins out of the take down attempt, and ends up in the half guard of Babalu. Henderson lands four or five big right hands that just melted Sobral, and put him out. Big John steps in to save Sobral at 1:53 of the first round.

Henderson defeated Sobral via KO (punches) at 1:53 of round 1
