Less than 48 hours before Steve Cantwell’s fight with Stanislav Nedkov, Cantwell was forced to withdraw from the bout with a knee injury. According to MMAjunkie.com, and fighters only, the report stated Cantwell ripped a knee ligament in a training session on Thursday night. Since it is to late to find a replacement, according to sources, both fighters will receive their show money for the fight. The fight has officially been scrapped, and neither fighters weighed in.

Cantwell was to return after being inactive for close to 13 months. He was scheduled to fight at UFC 108 when he was unable to pass his medical screening with an undisclosed injury. Dana White inferred the injury was serious when he said “Cantwell may never fight again.” Apparently he cleared up his medical issues. He was scheduled to fight UFC new comer Ricardo Romero, but he was replaced by Seth Petruzeli. No Reason was given for the switch.

Steve Cantwell was the reigning WEC Light Heavyweight Champion when the UFC absorbed the division in its ranks. He defeated Brian Stann in one of his last fights with the WEC, and defended the belt once. He eventually lost to Brian Stann in the third fight against each other, which gave Stann the edge 2 fights to 1.
