Sengoku Raiden Championship 15 took place early this morning in Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. The fights were broadcast live on HDNet. The card featured both the Welterweight and Bantamweight Grand Prixs, as well as the Main Event between Hiroshi Izumi and James “The Messenger” Zikic. This is how the business end of the card broke down, and below you find the quick results of the entire card.

Hiroshi Izumi vs James “The Messenger” Zikic

The first round started with an almost immediate injury when Zikic landed a left on Izumi, and cut him. The doctor checked the cut, but allowed the fight to continue. Zikic keyed in on the cut, and eventually got it bleeding again after a clinch. Zikic landed a solid left that seemed to have rattled Izumi, but Izumi dove in for the takedown and got it. He threw weak punches from the ground, before the round ended. Round two was much more close, but Zikic seemed to land the harder shots, and the damage seemed to really be showing on Izumi’s face. The third round started with both fighters exchanging, but again after eating a few of Zikic’s punched, Izumi gets him down. This time, Zikic popped back up. He began to pick his shots on Izumi, and Izumi got him down again. It was all Zikic from the ground though, as he was landing from his back and nearly got a triangle choke tightened up. Izumi came close to mounting, but landed three shots on Zikic to finish the round. In my opinion the judges got this one wrong, and the decision was questionable to say the least.

Hiroshi Izumi by Split Decision (30-29, 30-29, 29-30)

Brian “The Bandit” Cobb vs Kazunori Yokota

Round 1 was a close round. Firstly, Cobb started the round minus one point for missing weight (thats how SRC handles it.) The round belonged to Cobb, and mostly because of his repeated submission attempts. He had both a guillotine choke, as well as a rear naked choke, but Yokota was able to escape. The second round was mostly Yakota. Yakota was able to get Cobb down a few times, and land some solid punches from the guard. Also, by the end of the round Cobb started to show some damage to his right cheek. Even though Yokota landed the harder strikes in the third round, it was Cobb who was trying to finish with submission attempts, and managed to take Yokota down twice. This was a close fight.

Brian Cobb by Split Decision (28-28 [Must Decision - Cobb], 28-28 [Must Decision - Cobb], 29-30)

Maximo “Maxi” Blanco vs Kiuma Kunioku

There is no doubt that Kunioku came to fight, and he had no problems squaring off with Blanco in the ring. He was able to handle the early pressure of Blanco, and even was able to take Blanco’s back while standing. However, it was all Blanco for most of the fight. Maxi finally landed a combination that sent Kunioku to the floor late in the round. Blanco stood over him, and put him away with punches.

Maximo Blanco by KO (Punches) at 4:26 of round one.

Kazuo “Yoshiki” Takahashi vs Chang Seob Lee

After some back and forth action Lee was able to stop a takedown, and some punches for his troubles. Takahashi and Lee traded some hay makers that looked pretty wild, and then Lee landed a few combinations. Lee started landing legs, and Takahashi took him down. Takahashi passed and ended up in the scarf hold position, and was quickly able to isolate Lee’s arm. He secured the straight armbar, and Lee tapped quickly from it.

Kazuo Takahashi by Submission (Scarf Hold Arm lock) at 2:28 of round one.
