Strikeforce Challengers 13 was held in Nashville, Tennessee tonight, and aired for free on Showtime. Another decent card for the Strikeforce/ShoMMA team. Below is the recap of the main card, and the results of the non televised under card.

Strikeforce Challengers results:

*the scores after the round run downs are not official, but they were my scores as I saw the rounds in real time.

Tyron Woodley (170.2 lbs.) vs. Tarec Saffiedine (170.2 lbs.)

Rd1

They both came out trading, but Woodley didn’t want to stand in front Tarec. He took down Tarec, but he was able to get back up. Saffiedine was controlled against the fence most of the round, as the pressure from Woodley was too great. 10-9 Woodley

Rd2

It was Saffiedine who came out swinging this time, but after being trapped against the fence, Woodley landed the inside leg trip, and landed on top. Woodley spent the whole round on top, sporadically landing shots to the body with knees and hands. Thats where the round ended. 10-9 Woodley

Rd. 3

After some trading, Saffiedine went for a head kick that Woodley ducked under and shot in for the takedown. There was a stalemate on the ground, but it was Woodley who was able to impose his will on Saffiedine through out the round. Saffiedine was able to defend the takedowns of Woodley in the rest of the round, but the clinch work work of Woodley was too much for him. 10-9 Woodley

Tyron Woodley def Tarec Saffiedine by unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28,29-28)

Ron “Abongo” Humphrey (205.4) vs. Ovince St. Preux (204.8)

Rd. 1

OSP immediately clipped Abongo, and he seemed to be wobbly. St. Preux controlled from the top the whole round, and Abongo had very little for him. OSP came close to finishing with a head and arm choke, but couldn’t finish. OSP finished on top in mount pounding on Abongo.

OSP 10-9

Rd.2

Abongo came out swinging in the second and landed a few solid shots on OSP, but OSP stayed in the pocket and began landing on Abongo. OSP got the takedown, but after a minute of body shots the ref stood them up. Abongo began landing again, and had OSP hurt. OSP shot for the takedown, but Abongo attempted a choke and didn’t get it. 10-9 Abongo

Rd 3

Abongo came out swinging again, and then went for a takedown. OSP turned it on him and got the takedown himself. The ref stood them up, and OSP shot in again when Abongo pulled card with a guillotine choke. He almost got it, but OSP pulled out and ended on top. The ref stood them up again, but when Abongo slipped on a kick, OSP jumped on top and finished the round there. OSP 10-9

Ovince St. Preux def. Ron “Abongo” Humphrey by unanimous decision (30-27×3)

Devin Cole (239.2) vs. Daniel Cormier (249)

Rd1.

Cormier used his wrestling to close the distance, and control Cole. He eventually got a big lateral drop, but Cole got back up. Cormier controlled him on the feet by pressing him up to the cage. Cormier finally started landing shots on Cole, and then closed the distance for another take down. 10-9 Cormier

Rd.2

Again Cormier gets the easy takedown, and puts on a wrestling clinic. He effortlessly transitioned from position to position and worked his ground and pound. At one point he almost had the rear naked choke, but Cole was able to turn into him. An easy round for Cormier.

Rd.3

The third was a better round for Cole, but it wasn’t even enough to win the round. He had chances to exchange with Cormier, but he would swing and then clinch up with Cormier. Late in the round Cormier secured the takedown, and just continued to wear out Cole.

Daniel Cormier def. Devin Cole By Unanimous Decision.(30-27 x3)

Julia Budd (144.2) vs. Amanda Nunes (143.2)

Amanda Nunes came out firing, and quickly clipped Budd with a solid right hand. It sent Budd to the canvas, and the finished with hammer fists.

Amanda Nunes def. Julia Budd by TKO(strikes) at :14, R2

Rhadi Ferguson (205) vs. John Richard (206)

Ferguson was able to absorb some pressure in the first round, and turn it around on Richard. He used his size to smother Richard, and John had very little to offer. After spitting his mouth piece out 3 times, the ref deducted a point, and on my card Rhadi won the round 10-8. Richard came out for the 2nd very winded, and threw a kick that landed to close tot he groin of Ferguson. Rhadi tried to complain, but Richard closed in and took him down. Rhadi created a scramble, and ended up with the leg of Richard. he turned to a heel hook, but the knee bar presented itself.

Rhadi Ferguson def. John Richard by Submission (Knee bar), R2
