Next month’s UFC Welterweight Championship showdown between Georges St. Pierre and bitter rival Josh Koscheck has done so well at the box office that officials with the UFC and Quebec’s Bell Centre have decided to make additional tickets available for fans who still want to witness the upcoming event in person.
Following one of the sport’s greatest upsets in losing his welterweight title in 2007 to Matt Serra, St. Pierre immediately stepped back into the octagon to take on the AKA trained Koscheck.
The two locked horns for three intense rounds with St. Pierre getting himself back in the win column with a unanimous decision victory while Koscheck appeared visibly distraught his the outcome.
After weeks of build up with the help of them coaching opposite eachother in the current season of The Ultimate Fighter, Koscheck once again gets a chance to get the best of St. Pierre. On the flip side, St. Pierre looks to keep the UFC Welterweight title in Montreal where it has been since he regained it after stopping Serra in their 2008 rematch.
This will be the fifth consecutive title defense for the Canadian mixed-martial artist which is part of an overall seven fight win steak. His last outing resulted in a one sided unanimous decision over the usually exciting Briton, Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy.
Koscheck currently sports a three fight win streak. Koscheck’s last bout was against Paul Daley. Following the bout, Daley’s antics earned him a one way ticket out of the UFC, while Koschecks performance was good enough to vault him into a title shot being the divisions number one contender.
With the cocky attitude and exciting style that Koscheck possesses along with the dominance of Montreal’s St. Pierre, it’s really no wonder as to why fans are flocking to see this one live.
Accordingly, there will now be a whole new batch of tickets in the $75 – $100 price range made available for UFC followers that missed out on the first chance at tickets.
“The fans are really fired up for this fight,” UFC President Dana White said. “Josh Koscheck’s mission is to take the world title from Georges St-Pierre in front of his hometown crowd in Montreal. With such high demand, we released additional tickets and expect Bell Centre to be electric on Dec. 11.”
