Mike Kyle Has Agreed To Replace Overeem
Added on Nov 29, 2010 by John Petit in
Coming off of a rough week where they lost Herschel Walker, and then Valentijn Overeem pulled out of his fight. Strikeforce finally got a nit of good news when they were able to find a replacement for Overeem. On seven days notice.
UFC vet Mike Kyle (18-7-1) has agreed to take on Antonio Silva at Strikeforce: Henderson Vs. Babalu. Kyle has won two titles in his last three fights, the XMMA and King of the Cage Light-Heavyweight Championships, and he hasn’t lost a fight since Fabricio Werdum submitted him with a guillotine in August of 2009.
Although Kyle has fought at heavyweight 8 times already, but he has never faced a man the size of Antonio Silva. The 6’4 Antonio Silva has lost just two career fights, and holds a black belt in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He last lost a decision to the same man to most recently defeat Kyle, in Fabricio Werdum. “Bigfoot” will be looking to take a big step towards a potential rematch with the only man to submit Fedor Emelianenko.
Strikeforce: “Henderson Vs. Babalu” is going to take place in St Louis on December 4th. Dan Henderson will be taking on Renato “Babalu” Sobral in a rematch 10 years in the making, Paul Daley vs Scott Smith, and Robbie Lawler against Matt Lindland will make up the televised show.
It is unclear if Strikeforce is even looking to replace Walker on the card, but we will keep you posted on if they are able to replace the fight. There is a rumor of Benji Radach coming on the card to fight Lucas Lopez, but it is far from being finalized.
