Free Betting Picks: Ultimate Fight Night 22

The UFC’s next installment of Ultimate Fight Night takes place tonight live on Spike TV and will be headlined by a clash of middleweight contenders Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares. Though this is certainly not the most star-studded event the UFC has put on, there are some competitive matchups with the opportunity to make a few bucks. Let’s start with the first fight of the telecast.
Ross Pearson vs. Cole Miller
Pearson is listed as a -260 favorite and he deserves every penny of it. Pearson has looked like a million bucks since winning The Ultimate Fighter and against solid competition. However, all of his opponents have been strikers that fit well with Pearson’s skill set. Miller is a young jiu-jitsu specialist that will show Miller things he has yet to see in the UFC. If Miller can get it to the ground, he will have a massive advantage, but I don’t think he will be able to get it there. Pearson appears to have great takedown defense and as long as the fight stays standing, Miller is at risk. Look for Pearson to either outbox Miller for three rounds or TKO him late in the first round or the middle of the second. We will save this bet for our parlay, though.
Efrain Escudaro vs. Charles Oliveira
Efrain Escudaro came in about four pounds overweight yesterday at the weigh-ins for his bout with Charles Oliveira. Escudaro is the favorite in this match, with Oliveira around a +160 dog. If you are looking to bet on an upset, this is the one. Though Oliveira is still a rookie in the UFC, he looked stunning in his debut and seems to have all the upside of a budding new star. Escudaro coming in overweight certainly doesn’t boost any confidence in him and considering his submission loss to Evan Dunham earlier this year, he clearly is susceptible to be submitted. I like a bet on the underdog Oliveira here.
Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau
While Tibau is a very talented and at times underrated fighter, Miller trumps him in all categories. Miller is 17-2 in his career, with his only losses coming to the UFC’s No.1 and No. 2 lightweight fighters in Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. Though he is rarely flashy or eye-catching, Miller gets the job done. It will be a competitive three rounds, but expect Miller to win a unanimous decision. He is listed as a -140 favorite, so it might be a good idea just to put a good chunk of change on a straight bet for Miller. If not, use him to bolster your parlay.
Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares
Though Marquardt deserves to be the favorite here, this is not as easy of a fight as some are assuming. Palhares is a strong and tough guy that has yet to be stopped in his career. One of his losses was a close fight early in his career and the other was a decision loss in his UFC debut to the great Dan Henderson. I do think Marquardt will be able to fend off the submission attempts and he likely will try to keep the fight on the feet where he has a big advantage. This fight will go the distance, but I do expect Marquardt to win at least two of the rounds. At -240, Marquardt is a good addition to your parlay.
Betting advice:
Straight bets: Charles Oliveira at +160. Jim Miller at – 140.
Parlay: Ross Pearson, Jim Miller, Nate Marquardt at around 2.5 to 1.
