Kenny Florian’s manager Malki Kawa has announced that Florian will face Evan Dunham at the UFC Fight For The Troops 2. The event is set to take place on January 22, 2011, and will take place in Fort Hood in Texas. Kawa said via his twitter account “Kenny is excited to be fighting in front of our armed forces.”
There have been a few fights that have been speculated, but not confirmed. The list below is just rumors list, but I will have you know that a few of them are from pretty reliable sources.
Likely confirmed fights:
Lightweight : Kenny Florian vs. Evan Dunham
Lightweight : Melvin Guillard vs. Yves Edwards
Heavyweight : Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague
Heavyweight: Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran
Fights Rumored:
DaMarques Johnson vs. Mike Guymon
Charlie Brenneman vs. Amilcar Alves
Mike Swick vs. David Mitchell
This will be the second time the UFC did a Fight For The Troops event. The first one was held in North Carolina in December of 2008. The event helped raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which provides support for severely wounded military personnel and veterans and the families of military personnel lost in service. Sources close to the UFC said the event brought in close to 4 million dollars for charity.
The event had a strange theme that ran through the night, as an unusual amount of injuries happened through out the fights. The UFC should have just hired a bus to bring the injured fighters to the local hospital. Including one of the worst injuries I have ever seen in the Octagon. Corey Hill through a low leg kick at his opponent Dale Hart, and almost literally snapped his leg off by breaking both bones in his lower leg. I refuse to watch the replays of the fight, and as you can imagine, I’m used to seeing bone break injuries. If you have an iron stomach, or just like sick leg breaks feel free to youtube it, but I have a hard time even looking at the stills. Hill has not continued his fighting career, but has not made it back to the UFC yet. Razak Al-Hassan, Brandon Wolff, Jonathan Goulet, Nate Loughran, and Yoshiyuki Yoshida were also hospitalized for injuries sustained during their fights.
