Fight For The Troops 2, UFN 23: Breaking Down Cole Miller Vs. Matt Wiman

This has the possibility of getting a bonus at the end of the night, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it got more than one. Both of these guys appeared on the fifth season of the ultimate fighter, and both of these guys find them selves on the door step of being in the mix.
Cole Miller is a dangerous ground fighter, and he is one of those guys who is always looking for the finish. He has 17 wins and 15 were finished before the final bell, and 12 of those wins were by submission. His last loss was to Efrain Escudero, and many speculate that they may have stopped the fight to quickly. He has racked up wins against Ross Pearson, Danny Lauzon, Junie Browning, and Jorge Gurgel, all of which were submission wins. If you didn’t notice the pattern, Cole Miller likes to choke fools in the Octagon, and Wiman would be playing with fire if he decided to play with him on the floor.
Matt Wiman is a durable fighter, and he has only been finished once in a fight by a flying knee KO from Spencer Fisher. He has a solid gas tank, and knows how to grind guys out by using his wrestling. His wrestling has also helped him manage to avoid submissions in the past, but more than likely he will use it to avoid the ground and turn this into a stand up war. This might be dangerous too, because Cole will enjoy the reach. Wiman is an exciting fighter, and enjoys 3 bonuses for fight of the night, but unfortunately he was on the losing end of two of those. He is riding a two fight winning streak, and I think if he wants to keep the momentum he will have to grind Cole out for the Decision.
This is one of those fights where if they fought 10 times, it could end up having ten different out comes, but I see Cole Miller winning a majority of them. Cole’s striking has been getting better, and if he can use his reach and force a ground fight with Wiman he will most certainly win the fight. Cole is an incredible ground fighter with 3 submission of the night awards, and is always thinking three steps ahead while grappling. Thats what I think will happen in this one; Mid way through the second round Cole will clip Wiman with a solid hook, and Wiman will dive in for a shot to rely on his wrestling. I see him getting the shot, but losing via a kimura or guillotine choke.
