`Bellator 33 took place night in Philadelphia, PA, and hosted a super-fight between Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez versus Roger Huerta. The other main attraction was a five round championship fight between Lyman Good and Ben Askren. Below is the breakdown of the main events , and the quick results for the rest of the night.
Eddie Alvarez vs. Roger Huerta
Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez set the pace of this fight in the first 10 seconds. Alvarez threw a leg kick that landed flush, and had Huerta hobbling immediately. Huerta didn’t look like he expected such a viscous strike from Eddie, and the rest of the fight he was hesitant because of the leg kicks. For most of the fight he was fighting in a south-paw stance to avoid damage on the leg. Roger Huerta fought well considering, but this fight was clinic by the Champ. Huerta showed a lot of heart, and held his own in the cage, but he couldn’t put together his punches like Alvarez. Huerta would land one or two shots, but Alvarez would follow up with four or five. Most of these combinations Eddie was throwing were ending with the low leg kick. That was the story of the bout as the ring side doctor was forced to stop the fight when he got a look at Huerta’s leg before the the third round started. An excellent fight by both fighters.

Lyman Good vs. Ben Askren
If you followed Ben Askren’s run at this title, or his wrestling credentials, then you know how this fight was going to go down. You were right. Ben Askren controlled this fight from the first bell, to almost the last bell. Lyman Good had no answer for the wrestling of Askren, and until MMA fighters either learn to stop true wrestling takedowns, or how to sub wrestlers from the back, fighters like Askren are the future of MMA. Lyman was able to land some punches on Askren, but when Ben would realize he was about to get in trouble, he went in for the take down. Lyman was also able to sweep Ben a few times, but he would get up and let Ben stand up. Then Ben would take him down again. Lyman was able to stop a few of Ben’s shots, but even when he stopped one, the next one he couldn’t. The exciting part of this fight happened in the fifth round. Ben was perching over Lyman, as Lyman was on his back. Good landed a huge up kick square on the jaw, and Ben collapsed into his guard. I personally thought he was out. Lyman wrapped up a triangle choke, and was close to getting the submission, but Lyman switched to the armbar, and Askren freed himself.
