B.J. Penn To Meet Matt Hughes a Third Time

Originally reported by CagePotato.com, both former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion B.J. Penn and former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes have verbally agreed to a third bout between the two.
Penn most recently lost his lightweight title to Frankie Edgar and then lost the rematch against Edgar. After losing twice to the now champion at lightweight, many speculated that Penn might move back to welterweight where he was once briefly the champion.
Hughes is coming off a spectacular submission of Ricardo Almeida in a fight few expected Hughes to win. The submission renewed some faith in Hughes as a threat at 170 pounds and he will now get to welcome Penn back to the higher weight.
This match would have looked like a mismatch last year, but now with Penn losing two in a row and Hughes winning three in a row, the fight makes perfect sense. This is a fight that needed to happen at some point no matter what and now is the best possible time to put it on.
The rubber match is expected to be the co-main event of UFC 123 on November 20, which will be headlined by a former light heavyweight champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida.
