Sonnen To Face Stann At UFC 136
After testing positive for PED’s at UFC 117, lying to the CASC, and pleading guilty to felony charges in his home state of Oregon Chael Sonnen finally has a fight scheduled in the UFC. If you picked Texas in the “what state will actually license Sonnen” pool, You win. Sonnen will face Brian Stann at UFC 136 in Houston Texas, and the winner will most likely go on to fight the winner of Anderson Silva Vs. Yushin Okami for the middleweight belt. That fight is set to go down in Brazil at UFC 134. No word on how is licensing will go down, in the past Texas has approved fighters who have pissed hot for PED’s, but will make them pass a drug screen before licensing. However, Sonnen says he “Needs” testosterone, and has been trying to get a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone. Sonnen has failed drug screens in the past and most states will not grant him a TUE for Sonnen for this reason. They consider it a self inflicted injury. I’m still waiting to hear back from the Texas Athletic commission on this question.
Oliveira Steps In For Taylor, Will Face Cerrone
The 21 year old Charles Oliveira just got done fighting at UFC 131 in Pennsylvania against Nik Lentz, and although he was given the win in the Octagon the commission later overturned it to a no contest because of an illegal knee that lead him to the win. The UFC has announced that Oliveira will be jumping right back into the cage at UFC on Versus 5 against Donald Cerrone. Cerrone was supposed to be meeting Paul Taylor, but Tyalor had to drop from the event because of an injury suffered while training. The card is taking place in Milwaukee Wisconsin on August 16. The card will be headlined by Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle. Oliveira is on a 4 fight win streak and has put together wins over Vagner Rocha, Paul Kelly, Chris Horodeck and Jamie Varner. He is now 15-3 with one no contest.
M1 Challenge 26 Tonight
M-1 Challenge 26 goes down tonight in Costa Mesa, California, and yesterday all fighters made weight. The event will be broadcast live tonight on Showtime, and on M-1′s web site for those of you outside of the US. This will be the second time the Main Event fighters will face each other. Kenny Garner and Pat Bennet met last September and Garner defeated Bennet by TKO via punches in the fight. With the win, Garner advanced through the first round of the 2010 M-1 Selection Americas heavyweight tournament.
