Marquardt Signs With BAMMA
Nate Marquardt has signed with a new promotion after being dropped suddenly from the UFC. He has signed with the British Association of Mixed Martial Arts and could fight as soon as September 10th. The move makes Nate the most popular fighter on the BAMMA roster, and there is a chance he could fight Paul Daley who was also released from the UFC after punching Josh Koschek after the bell after they fought. As of right now BAMMA says they can not guarantee they can put that fight together.
Marquardt said of the move, “I’m very excited to be working with BAMMA. They hold sports regulation in high regard and mandate it for their athletes. They are also known for signing top-level fighters and I want to fight the best. I can’t wait to show everyone what I’m capable of in the welterweight division.”
Its hard to picture who would be considered the best on the BAMMA roster as they currently don’t have any of the top welterweights or middleweights.
Cruz Vs Johnson, Bowles Vs Faber Announced
The Bantamweight picture is now more clear. The UFC announced that Dominick Cruz will be defending his title against Demitrious Johnson at UFC On Versus 6. This will be the first time since UFC 75 that a title fight will take place on free television. At UFC 75 Quinton Rampage Jackson defended his title against Dan Henderson.
Cruz is coming off his five round decision victory over Urijah Faber. Faber will now be facing Brian Bowles who is also a former champion. The fight will take place at UFC 139 scheduled to take place on November 19. The winner of Faber Vs Bowles will most likely be next in line for a shot at the title. Faber (25-5) is 2-1 with wins against Takeya Mizugaki and Eddie Wineland. Since losing the belt to Cruz at WEC 47 in March 2010, Bowles (10-1) has defeated Damacio Page and Mizugaki in UFC contests this year.
