With Landon Donovan’s Major League Soccer season finished, Premier League teams are expected to line up for the talented attacking midfielder who finally broke out on European soil during a loan spell at the beginning of the calendar year with Everton.

The list of potential suitors for the once-maligned American star is almost certainly longer than it was before Donovan excelled for the Toffees late last season. In 13 appearances he scored two goals and won over even his harshest critics with a stretch of game-changing performances which enabled him to garner Everton’s Player of the Month award. Donovan was carried on his teammate’s shoulders following his final appearance with the Liverpool club before returning to start a new MLS season in Los Angeles.

Donovan grabbed the full attention of management teams around the Premier League with comments stating that he would like to sort out the details of a return to England in the coming weeks. At the end of a busy 2010 which featured the transfer to Everton, leading the United States to the knockout stage of the World Cup in dramatic fashion, and a run to the MLS playoffs, Donovan is enjoying a much-deserved vacation.

Everton would seem to have the inside track on securing Donovan on another short-term loan, though the club has been struggling with money in recent months. Tottenham, which just lost midfielder Tom Huddlestone for three months following ankle surgery, could be another possible suitor.

Donovan played it close to the vest when he spoke briefly with Sky Sports News.

“Give me a few weeks and I will have an answer for you,” Donovan said about a potential return to the UK. “Right now I’m four days into my vacation and I’m going to enjoy it. I’m going to chill and then in a few weeks I will make a decision.”
