MLS Soccer Betting Free Picks: San Jose @ Real Salt Lake
Added on Jun 25, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
The US Major League Soccer circuit returns to action following a two week break for World Cup play as Real Salt Lake hosts the San Jose Earthquakes at Rio Tinto Stadium in Salt Lake City. Heading into the break, RSL was playing arguably better soccer than any team in the league and will be trying to maintain this momentum. San Jose was slumping before the hiatus and hopes that it gave them an opportunity to make some improvements.

There’s not many sports betting options aside from baseball on the board tonight, but this looks like a good opportunity to make a profit. Compared to many MLS teams, neither RSL or San Jose has lost many players to World Cup play though Salt Lake will be without the considerable talents of striker Robbie Findley who is with the US team in South Africa. RSL entered the break on a 7 game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) and concluded first half play with a 1-0 road victory over the league leading LA Galaxy. It should be footnoted that the Galaxy may have more quality players away on World Cup duty than any team in the league including Landon Donovan and the MLS goal scoring leader Edson Buddle, but it was still a solid away victory.
Salt Lake’s Rio Tinto Stadium may not be as familiar to casual sports fans as the NBA venue cross town where the Utah Jazz play (Energy Solutions Arena), but it has become the most frightening home field in the MLS for visiting teams. RSL is currently on a 16 game league unbeaten streak at home (20 games in all competitions) and boasts a nasty combination of an intimate, soccer only stadium with a passionate fan base at the high altitude of Salt Lake City. With San Jose playing somewhat mediocre football all season and facing a dominant home side we’ll back Real Salt Lake in this match.
