Now that the Vancouver Canucks have closed the deal on the Nashville Predators in Game 6, the question at hand is which team would they rather face in the next round. The Detroit Red Wings or the San Jose Sharks. The consensus among the team is that it doesn’t matter who they face because it will be a rough series, but they all want it to take as long as possible.

Roberto Luongo made it sound like he wanted it to go to a 27 game series, and jokingly said “Two quadruple overtimes and call it a day.” Of course they will all be watching tonight as the Sharks face off against the Wings, but they all made it sound like they would love the rest and would prefer to play a tired team.

Canucks captain Henrik Sedin says he will enjoy the game tonight, and says no matter what happens they are going to have their hands full in the round of the playoffs. He said “Yeah, with a smile on our face, but we don’t really care. It’s two good teams again. We’ve been through two good teams already. We’ll see. It’s going to be long flights anyway, and we’ll take whoever we get.”

If the regular season is any indication of who they would prefer to play it really isn’t much help. During the season they were 3-0-1 against the Sharks and 2-0-2 against the Wings, and outscored both teams in the games played overall. Sedin was quick to point out that all that doesn’t really matter this time of the year, and he wasn’t shy about using their past to prove it. He said “We had a lot of (regular season) success against Chicago in past years, too, and they’ve still beaten us in the playoffs. It doesn’t really matter.”

Coach Alain Vigneault said he was looking forward to the time off regardless of who the next team is. He said “We are going to meet a real strong opponent, so a few days off won’t hurt.” When the media brought up the obvious proximity choice of playing San Jose over Detroit. Back and forth flights to Detroit will take close to 5 hours, but San Jose is a much quicker trip. Vigneault said he isn’t putting any stock in that, as they travel the most during the regular season. He said “I think that’s overrated. We travel the most. We’re used to it. We’ve done everything where science can help you to make sure our guys are fresh and energized, and to tell you the truth, we’re just used to it.”

The Red Wings will be facing the San Jose Sharks tonight at 7 pm on Versus, and it’s a must win game for the Wings if they want their Cup dreams this year to continue.
