Added on Jan 30, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Busy day at the sportsbook on Saturday with a ton of basketball and even some hockey betting opportunities on the board. We’ll head down south as the Carolina Hurricanes will host the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago has one of the best records in the NHL, while Carolina has one of the worst.

Raleigh, NC is the final stop for the Chicago Blackhawks on an eight game road trip and this should be a welcome break after games against San Jose and Vancouver. A win here will give Chicago a 6-2 record on their road swing and given the qualitative disparity between the two teams that’s a strong possibility. Chicago can’t afford a letdown, however, as they’re 1 point behind the San Jose Sharks for the best record in the Western Conference and the entire NHL. Currently, they’re tied for the second best overall record in the league with the Washington Capitals.
The Blackhawks’ offense struggled to get going at the start of the season, but has become very productive as the year progressed. Currently, the Blackhawks are ranked #4 in goals per game scored while the Hurricanes are the 3rd worst team in the league in goals per game allowed. Both teams have played a lot of Over games lately–Carolina has gone Over in 5 of their last 7 while Chicago has gone Over in 3 straight, 5 of 7 and 7 of 11. Blackhawks will likely play a lot looser and more wide open here than against San Jose, and we see this one going Over the total.
