NHL Hockey Betting Free Picks: Carolina @ Edmonton
Added on Feb 01, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
NHL betting action on Monday will take ups north of the border as the Edmonton Oilers host the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina has started to play better hockey lately, while the Oilers are mired in a 13 game losing streak. While we’re not really confident with laying chalk prices for betting on sports with the Hurricanes we will take a totals position on this game.
Carolina Hurricanes vs. Edmonton Oilers
February 1, 6:35 PM Pacific
Edmonton’s losing streak hit 13 games as the Calgary Flames pulled the double whammy of kicking their hated rivals while they’re down to end their own losing skid. At one point, this looked to be a potential ‘winnable’ game for the Oilers, but the Hurricanes have all of a sudden started playing inspired hockey. Carolina has won 4 straight and five of their last six, beating the high flying Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 in their last outing. The ‘canes defense and goaltending has improved, and their scoring goals and that’s a formula for winning hockey. For the year, however, Carolina has the third worst goals against per game in the entire NHL. They allow 3.19 goals per game right ahead of the Oilers, who allow 3.40 goals per game.
Still, all Carolina has to do to win this game is keep their offense on track and score some goals. Both teams have played a lot of ‘Over’ games lately with Carolina ‘Over’ in 6 of their last 8 and Edmonton ‘Over’ in 8 of their L11. Edmonton’s best chance to win is to put some pucks on net as well, and this should play out as a relatively high scoring game. We’ll play it accordingly, as neither team is at their best in defensive struggles.
