NHL Betting Picks: Chicago @ Ottawa
Added on Jan 19, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
NHL hockey betting action moves north of the border tonight as the Chicago Blackhawks head to the Scotiabank Place to take on the Ottawa Senators. Blackhawks in top form lately, tied with San Jose for the best record in both the Western Conference and entire NHL. Ottawa is currently hanging on to the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference. Blackhawks will be looking to keep pace with the Sharks, and below is our sports betting prospect for the game:
Chicago Blackhawks at Ottawa Senators
January 19, 4:35 PM Pacific
Blackhawks started the season winning with defense, but over the past month their offense has started to come alive as well. Blackhawks have scored four or more goals in 11 of their previous 13 games, which has moved them into second place in the NHL for goals per game scored. Considering they’re ranked #1 in goals per game against that’s a pretty scary combination. The Blackhawks also get the second most shots on goal in the league (33.4 per game) while allowing the fewest (24.1 per game). They have started to play a more wide open style as their offense has started to produce, but they’re still a team that can get it done on the defensive end. Not surprisingly, as their scoring has increased so have their ‘Over’ games. After being one of the more dependable ‘Under’ sides in the league in the first half of the season they’ve now gone ‘Under’ in only 3 of their last 13 games (9 OV, 1 push).
Senators have some talent, but they just can’t seem to put everything together on a consistent basis. They’re a team that is either scoring or allowing a ton of goals and usually not on the same night. They’ve either scored or allowed 4 or more goals in 10 of their last 14 games. Only three of those games have gone ‘Under’ the total (8 OV, 3 push). With 5 of the last 7 games at Ottawa going over the total, we’ll look for these teams to exceed the 5′ total.
