NHL Betting Picks: Boston @ New York Islanders

Basketball will be the big ticket at the sports betting places on Saturday but there’s also a number of NHL betting opportunities to work with. We’ll take a look at an Eastern Conference battle between the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins. The Bruins have a tenuous grasp on 7th place in the conference just one point ahead of three teams tied for 8th. The Islanders are currently out of the playoff picture but a couple of wins could get them right back in the mix.

Both teams have struggled to score goals this year, leaving the Islanders in 27th place in goals scored per game with the Bruins dead last in the NHL. The Bruins at least have the salvation of playing good hockey on the defensive end, where they currently are ranked #4 in goals against per game. The Islanders aren’t good on that end of the ice either, ranking 26th in goals against per game.
Still, worth noting that this is only the 5th time in the last 24 games that the Bruins have had a total higher than 5 posted and all five of those games have gone Under. For the season, the Bruins have gone Under in 9 of 12 on the road with a total higher than 5. In theory, the higher total is due to the Isles’ recent defensive struggles but against a team that also struggles to score it won’t automatically be a Bruins field day. 7 of the L10 head to head have gone Under as have 4 of the L5 on the Islanders home ice.
