Added on Mar 17, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Sportsbooks offering a big slate of NHL betting opportunities for Tuesday, and we’ll look at an Eastern Conference battle between the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins. Boston is trying to hang on to the final spot in the East and lost to their longtime rivals the New Jersey Devils last night. Carolina dug a huge hole for themselves at the start of the season, but have recently been one of the hottest teams in the league winning 7 of their L10. They’re currently in 14th place but just 8 points behind the Bruins for the final postseason berth.

Bruins lost a hard fought 3-2 verdict to the New Jersey Devils last night and now turn around and immediately face the red hot Carolina Hurricanes. ‘Canes have been idle since a Saturday night home loss to Phoenix. Over the past 10 games, the Hurricanes have the best record in the Eastern Conference. Since the midway point of the season, Carolina is 18-10 while Boston is 10-19. Against teams with losing records in the second half of the season, Carolina his 10-5 while Boston is 5-9. The Hurricanes at this point are just a ‘team with a losing record’ in name only as they’re playing very good hockey. They’re still not a very good defensive team, ranking 24th in the NHL and one of only eight teams allowing 3 or more goals per game. They’ve climbed into the top 10 in scoring offense, however, with 2.74 goals per game. Boston has a very good defense (#5 in goals against per game) but ranks dead last in scoring offense. Bad situation for the Bruins playing a hot team that has drawn a target on their backs in a bad stylistic matchup. Canes win and we’ll also look for the game to go Over the total. Bruins have 2 OV and 2 pushes in their L4 games, but most importantly the two head to head games this year have seen a lot of goals scored. Hurricanes won 5-1 at home in late January, while Boston prevailed on their home ice 7-2 early in the season. So that’s a 7.5 average in two games this year, and 5 of the L6 meetings at Carolina have gone Over.
