Sportsbooks are offering a short slate of NBA action for Thursday with the NCAA hoops tournament taking center stage, but the NHL has a full schedule with 11 games on tap. We’ll look to an Eastern Conference battle between the Atlanta Thrashers and Ottawa Senators. Ottawa is currently ranked #5th in the conference though they’ve lost 7 of their L10 games. Atlanta is in 10th place 5 points out of the final playoff spot but they’ve also lost 7 of 10.

Both teams have struggled to score in their recent games. Ottawa has the 22nd ranked scoring offense in the NHL, and their recent form has been even worse–with the exception of 4 goal per game explosions against lowly Edmonton and the NY Islanders and Ottawa has scored 1 goal or fewer in 7 of their L9 games. Atlanta has been one of the highest scoring teams all season but have started to struggle mightily on offense. The Thrashers did put four on the board against Buffalo last time out, but in their 6 previous games they’d only scored 8 goals.
These teams have met three times this year, playing one Over, one Under and one push. Note that all three games were in the first six weeks of the season and even when the Thrashers were scoring in droves these contests had an average of just over 5.5 goals per game. With the teams’ current scoring woes we’ll look for a low scoring game and will play it to go Under the total. Senators have gone Under in 5 of their L6, Atlanta 4 of 6 and 3 of the last 5 meetings at Philips Arena have also gone Under.
