NHL Betting Free Picks: Minnesota Wild @ Detroit Red Wings
Added on Mar 27, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Not a lot of NHL hockey betting opportunities on the sportsbooks boards tonight, but we’ll take a look at a Western Conference battle between the Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings. After sleepwalking through the first half of the season, the Red Wings have apparently decided to start playing good hockey at the right time and have won 8 of their L10 games. They’re hanging on to 8th place in the West and have opened a 4 point lead over erratic Calgary. Minnesota isn’t a bad team either–they’ve got a winning record 0n the year though they play much better hockey at home than on the road.

These teams met in this building two weeks ago, with the Red Wings taking a 5-1 victory. Detroit has been playing excellent hockey of late, but that in no way can justify the online betting line on this game with the Wings a -300 or higher home favorite. Counting OT/shootout losses–which for the purposes of most betting propositions are the same as losses in regulation–the Wings are just 22-15 at home this year. Minnesota isn’t a great road team at 12-22-3 but they’re nowhere near the doormat that this price suggests. Wings have a tough road game on deck at Nashville, who are one of the teams they’re trying to run down in the Western Conference standings. Best way to play this one is probably on the puck line, but hard to argue taking the Wild at +250 or more either.
