The Chicago Blackhawks came up with a win at home over the Los Angeles Kings, but it didn’t come without a price. Marian Hossa, just last week, was telling people how good he felt, and was looking forward to an injury free season. However, he went down in the second period, and never came back in the third.

Coach Joel Quenneville broke the news tot he media after the Thursday morning skate. “He will be out a couple of weeks,” he continued “I don’t know if it was (from) a defining hit or anything like that, You can’t really tell. It’s tough to see or say when it exactly was.” He also reiterated that Hossa wouldn’t require surgery.

One thing is certain, Hossa will be missed. He is second on the team with 11 points, and already has seven goals. Patrick Kane told the Sun Times “It’s never good when arguably your best player on the team goes down, especially with how well he’s been playing, It seems like he was kind of injury-free for a bit. Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious. When a guy is having that good of a year, you never want to see him go down.”

The Hawks managed to win the game without him. Jake Dowell was able to score his first goal of the game and his first of the season, but four minutes later the Kings answered. That would be the last time the Kings scored, as Turco played an amazing game with 34 saves.

That seems to be the downside of the Blackhawks, as they continue to be out shot in hockey games. Quenneville said. “Turco really had to keep us in the game there in the latter parts of that second period and in segments of the third. I thought he was real strong, as well.” Turco doesn’t seemed to be bothered by the shots on goal either, he said “ It doesn’t really bother me, (but) this group can also be better off with less shots against, Hopefully we’ll slowly bring that average down.” With the win Turco improves his record to 5-1.

Quenneville still hopes the forwards could play better defense. “It’s a work in progress,” He said. “We can get better. That’s not good enough for sure. They were throwing everything at the net. They weren’t trying to make plays into the slot. They were looking for the jam stuff and Marty was very strong in those areas and very quick. That loose stuff around there is an area we can improve upon.”

Jonathon Toews was happy how the Hawks finished the game, as they have lost a few close ones lately. “We’ve seen that situation a few times lately, especially in our own building,” he said. “It’s about time we play the right way. It wasn’t pretty, but we got pucks out of dangerous areas when we had to, and kept them off the score sheet in the third period. That’s how you win hockey games.”
