Flyers Back In The Win Column With A 6-3 Win Over Sabres

It seems as though the outbursts from Flyers Coach Laviolette lit a fire under his team. Just the other day he was raving about flat his team was, and how they really needed to pick it up. Thats exactly what happened when the Flyers payed the Sabers this past Tuesday night. Sean O’Donnell got the night going when he dropped the gloves against Cody McCormick, and that really seemed to energize the team. “We were a little sluggish in the first 5 minutes of the first period. For me, that seemed to be the turning point right there. It brought a little energy to the building, a little energy to the bench. From there, we were able to play good hockey.”
The Flyers didn’t get the first goal, but once they got going they were able to put 6 goals on the board from 6 different players. Laviolette felt the things that weren’t clicking for them actually came together. Laviolette said “For me, the power play had been showing good life, They had been showing good life the last couple of games. You’d like to score more, certainly, than we did. But I thought there seemed to be some good movement, some consistency, some attack there. A lot of times when your power play is struggling, you start to see that life first and then you see the results. I think the results finally came.”
Sean O’Donnell was happy to contribute to the win even if he had to give and take a few punches to do it. “Different guys contribute in different ways, I thought the time was right to try to do something. I didn’t want to take a penalty or do anything silly, but once they scored, and I saw who was on the ice, there was a chance we could get the crowd going and get our bench going.”
O’Donnell said they did a lot of thinking as a team when they were flying home for the game against the Sabers. “It was a pretty quiet plane ride back Monday night, I think a lot of us had pride. We knew this was a [Buffalo] team that was waiting for us here Monday night. They didn’t play Monday. I think the guys were anxious to get out there. Anytime you play a poor game, you want to play as soon as you can to get back in the good graces.”
Sabers Coach Ryan Miller is struggling with his team, and was obviously frustrated with out come of the game. “Instead of rolling with the punches we get one mistake, or one bad thing happens, and the roof caves in and the world’s ending. It takes us a little too long to get our composure back.”
