Wisniewski’s Negotiating Rights Traded To Columbus
The Montreal Canadiens haven’t been able to reach a deal with James Wisniewski, and they traded his negotiating rights to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2012 Entry Draft. The 7th round pick will get bumped up to a 5th round pick if the Blue Jackets are able to reach a deal with Wisniewski, but if they don’t he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
The Montreal Canadiens picked up Wisniewski in December of last year to replace the injured Andrei Markov, but Markov is now healthy and just re-upped for a 3 year deal with the Habs. The 27 year old is coming off his best season to date, scoring career highs in goals (10), assists (41), points (51), power-play goals (8) and shots on goal (158). In 43 games with the Canandiens, he had 7 goals and 23 assists. The rest were with the Rangers. In 329 NHL games with the Blackhawks, Ducks, Islanders and Canadiens, Wisniewski has 27 goals, 121 assists, 302 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating.
Roloson Signs 1 Year Deal With Lightning
Dwayne Roloson has signed a one year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and was arguably the best mid season pick up of last season. Roloson would have been a free agent on Friday, but the team picked him for next season for $3 million. After a slow start to last season with the Islanders, Roloson was traded to the Lightning and lead them all the way to game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals. Roloson was 18-12-4 with a 2.56 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 34 regular-season games with the Lightning. In the playoffs, he was 10-6 with a 2.54 GAA and .924 save percentage.
When Roloson arrived at Tampa Bay, he was thrown right into the fire and started 4 straight games, and managed to shut out the Washington Capitals twice and secured his starting spot with Lightning.
Jagr Decision To Be Made Today
Jaromir Jagr’s agent Petr Svoboda, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Jagr is en route to the United States and likely will have an answer upon his arrival. The hypothetical statements could be more than that as early as Wednesday night. Svoboda said “He is flying to New York (from the Czech Republic) right now. He is coming this afternoon and will tell us his answer then.”
Everyone in the Penguins front office hopes that Jagr will finish his career in Pittsburgh. Jagr has played the last three seasons in Russia after recording 1,599 points in 1,273 NHL games over 17 seasons with the Penguins, Capitals and Rangers. He is ninth all-time in the NHL in points, 42 behind Joe Sakic.
The reported deal on the table is for 1 year, and is worth $2 million. Jagr played his first 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, winning the Stanley Cup twice, the Hart Trophy once, the Art Ross Trophy five times and the Lester B. Pearson Award twice.
