Quick Uses Mind Control!
The Los Angeles Kings’ Jonathon Quick confirmed what we had all expected last week after his legendary save against the Flames, he is super human. “It’s no secret that I have mind control,” Quick said obviously having fun with the reporter. As I reported on SBW last week, after Quick made contact with the puck the puck seemed to hit the ice and turn right to avoid the the mouth of the goal.
Quick talked about the goal, and what he saw on the play. Quick said “I remember after it hit my blocker I was sure it was going in the net and when I turned around and saw it going out the other end I was super relieved. We ended up winning in a shootout so that would have made a big difference in the game.” He continued to say he hadn’t even realized what had happened until he saw the replay. Quick concluded “I didn’t even realize the bounce it took until seeing it on PTI. I had to shake my head. Still, I never would have guessed it would have got the play it did.”
Here is the video in case you missed it last week:
Chris Pronger Out Until Stanley Cup Playoffs
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger has been out since March 8 with a broken hand, and Flyers GM Paul Holmgren doesn’t think he will be back during the season. Holmgren told the Camden Courier-Post on Thursday that he has had a minor set back, and will miss the rest of the season. He said “It’s not going as fast as everybody would like, but he’s probably still on track, maybe not for the regular season, but for the playoffs.”
Pronger had a pin put in his hand and he was back on the ice practicing just a week or so later, and Holmgren thinks it was probably premature to do. He stated “He did push it by handling the puck and actually shooting the puck. Nobody likes sitting out and maybe he thought he could come back sooner. It’s probably more strength and flexibility than anything. The last couple of days we’ve pulled him back. It’s a little bit of a minor setback.”
Homgren said they weren’t planning on having him back, and were assuming the worst. He concluded “It was a long shot anyway that he could play before the end of the regular season. It’s not like he hasn’t been in a playoff game before. It’s more about making sure he has the strength and mobility he needs.”
Tuomo Ruutu’s big hit on Hal Gill
I normally wouldn’t post a video of someone shattering the boards, but this one has a little extra flavor. Breaking the glass by a puck is on thing, but shattering it via check is another. Even more, watch Tuomo Ruutu’s HUGE hit on Hal Gil, and enjoy the aftermath. He not only breaks one piece of glass, he shatters two. Nice work Ruutu, even though I think one of the U’s in your name is unnecessary.
