Alfredsson Gets 1000 Points In Style

Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators reached a milestone when the Sens met the Buffalo Sabres this past Friday night in the four to two win. Not only did Alfredsson score his 1000th career point, but he did it in style with a hat trick. Alfredsson has 379 goals, 621 assists in 1,009 regular season games, all with the Senators.
Alfredsson is the 75th player to reach 1000, and said “It’s a big milestone, but it hasn’t been on my mind at all with the struggles we’ve been going through, I got a bit lucky today, but it feels great to get the 1,000 points and win at the same time.” He then commented about why the Senators, and himself, do so well against the Sabres, “ I don’t know what it is, to be honest, We respect them tremendously, and they are always tough to play against. I think because we respect them so much, we do well.”
The Senators were on their way to losing their first five games of the season, something they have done since the early 90′s, when they finally pulled out a win. Ottawa coach Cory Clouston said “You couldn’t write a better script, He was our best player tonight. We need him to step up like he did.”
Of Course, Alfredsson didn’t do it by himself. Goalie Brian Elliot posted up with 38 saves out of 40 shots. Elliot said after the game “You want to have a positive feeling before every game, so that’s how we took it, We didn’t approach it any differently. We created a lot of offense, and didn’t grab our sticks tightly and panic.” He continued “I didn’t have many shots in the first half, but they got a bunch in the third, We did a good job of keeping the shots outside and clearing the rebounds away.”
Brian Elliot went up to 9-0 against the Sabres, and The Sens have won their last 5 meetings. The Senators won without center Jason Spezza, who sat out because of lingering groin issues. The Senators said he’s “day-to-day.” They play Montreal tonight.
