Wide Receiver News

With OTAs underway across the league, teams are getting their first looks at rookies and signed free agents. While quarterback duels in Miami and Cleveland continue to garner a significant amount of attention, there are a few high-profile wide receivers making headlines that could affect the impending 2012 season.
Big month for Driver – Driver won Dancing With the Stars last week and followed it up with a brand new contract with the Packers that will keep him in Green Bay “for life.” His return will keep intact one of the league’s best wide receiving corps that includes Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson.
Hakeem Nicks on the mend – The broken foot suffered by the Giants playmaker will likely keep him sidelined for up to 12 weeks if not longer. Nicks believes he can return to the practice field for the opening of training camp, but team brass isn’t as confident. Expect doctors to err on the side of caution. The fourth-year wideout has posted back-to-back 1000-yard seasons.
Justin Blackmon learning the ropes – The 2012 draft’s most heralded pass-catcher, Justin Blackmon, is going through some growing pains in Jacksonville. Head coach Mike Mularkey is urging the talented rookie to ask more questions to avoid being “lost.” Learning a pro passing scheme isn’t easy, so the more he studies the better chance he’ll have to make an early impact.
Percy absent – Vikings dual-threat Percy Harvin is sitting out OTAs this week in order to rest his shoulder, which underwent a procedure to remove bone spurs. With Harvin ailing, and Adrian Peterson rehabbing his torn ACL, the Vikings potentially explosive offense is stuck in neutral for the foreseeable future.
Fitzy trims down – Larry Fitzgerald is hoping to drop five pounds to reach his ideal playing weight of around 212 pounds. With Notre Dame rookie Michael Floyd on the opposite side, Fitzgerald could be in store for another huge season in the desert.
