It happens every NFL season. A few consensus contending teams get off to rough starts. In 2010, the unlucky candidates all hail from the NFC. The Cowboys, Vikings and 49ers were picked by most to make the playoffs, but each has stumbled out of the gate and find themselves staring down the barrel of an 0-3 record. While not impossible, digging out from a 0-3 hole is a difficult task, to say the least. So, which of this terrible trio is most likely to lose on Sunday? Let’s take a look.

San Francisco at Kansas City – Traveling east on a short week to face a 2-0 team at 1pm is a nightmare scenario for San Fran. Fortunately, their opponent is the Chiefs, who might be the most unimpressive 2-0 team I’ve seen in years. Matt Cassel is awful and Jamaal Charles doesn’t get enough touches. The Niners need this game badly, but Alex Smith against a solid secondary spells doom. Welcome to 0-3, San Francisco.

Dallas at Houston – Besides the Packers, dem ‘Boys were the chic pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Ah, the best laid plans. Dallas has been behind the eight ball a lot in recent years, so they understand what’s at stake. The Texans are rolling, but will be without starting left tackle Duane Brown due to suspension, which means first-time starter Rashad Butler will get the pleasure of blocking DeMarcus Ware. I expect Dallas to  pound the ball early with Marion Barber and Felix Jones before attacking a weak Texans secondary. It won’t be easy, but the ‘Boys win.

Detroit at Minnesota – The perfect remedy for the 0-2 Vikings comes to town in the form of the 0-2 Lions. Brett Favre has been atrocious through two games, but a 30th ranked pass defense will have him smiling on Sunday. The Vikings front four should stuff rookie sensation Jahvid Best and terrorize journeyman Shaun Hill all day long. No team with postseason aspirations can afford to lose to Detroit at home. Vikings move to 1-2.
