Week 9 Injury Report
Added on Nov 07, 2011 by Scott in
As the 2011 NFL season reaches the half-way point, injuries become more and more significant to those teams jockeying for playoff positions. It goes without saying, but staying healthy in November and December is paramount to contending for a championship. All it takes is one or two key players going down to derail the Super Bowl train. With this in mind, here’s the Week 9 injury rundown.
Miles Austin (Cowboys) – Austin continues to be plagued by bad hamstrings. Earlier in the season the left one caused him to miss two games. Now it’s the right one, which forced him from Sunday’s game. He’s expected to be out at least two weeks and possibly much longer.
Gerald McCoy (Bucs) – It’s been a rough couple of months for McCoy. An ankle injury sidelined him for two games last month and a torn biceps suffered yesterday will end his season. The second-year defensive tackle has one sack in six starts.
Dallas Clark (Colts) – More bad news for the floundering Colts. Head coach Jim Caldwell classified Clark’s leg injury as “significant.” He will miss at least one week.
Tracy Porter (Saints) – It looked ugly for Porter when he collided awkwardly with Tampa’s Mike Williams in the first quarter on Sunday. He was carted off the field with an apparent neck injury, but appears to be okay after being evaluated at the hospital.
Hines Ward (Steelers) – Ward left the Sunday nighter with concussion-like symptoms after being hit by Baltimore’s Ray Lewis. Head coach Mike Tomlin referred to it as minor, but Ward looked woozy while standing on the sideline.
Jamaal Brown (Redskins) – Brown strained his right groin and will undergo an MRI to determine the severity.
Samson Satele (Raiders) – The starting center exited Sunday’s loss to Denver with knee/quad ailments. No word on whether he’ll be ready for Week 10.
Greg Salas (Rams) – The rookie slot receiver broke the fibula in his left leg and will miss the remainder of the season. Salas was the replacement for Danny Amendola, who is also out for the year with a dislocated elbow.
Lance Kendricks (Rams) – The rookie tight end sprained his left foot and is scheduled for an MRI later today.
Nate Washington (Titans) – The veteran wide receiver suffered a hip injury in the loss to Cincinnati. Head coach Mike Munchak didn’t provide any further details.
Michael Adams (Cardinals) – Adams left on a cart after being kicked in the head while attempting a tackle. The team announced his removal was precautionary, but he will be reevaluated as the week goes on.
Brandon Spikes/Gary Guyton (Patriots) – Both linebackers left Sunday’s defeat to the Giants. Spikes hurt a knee and Guyton injured a shoulder. Updates on either weren’t available after the game.
