The Minnesota Vikings have had a disastrous season and it doesn’t look to be getting any better–on Friday the team confirmed that star running back Adrian Peterson is still hampered by a high ankle sprain and will miss Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

Peterson isn’t having a great year, though he’s been the Vikings’ primary offensive weapon. He’s got 872 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns but the bottom line is that the Vikings are 2-7 and head coach Leslie Frasier doesn’t see any reason to take chances with his franchise player:

“The work he did today was far better than a week ago when he worked out. He’s able to do things pretty good. The cutting is still a little bit of an issue, but he’s much further along than he was a week ago, so hopefully the next days being able to cut will be less of a problem than it is today.”

Peterson’s injury isn’t the only problem for Minnesota–wide receiver Percy Harvin is listed as ‘questionable’ after missing practice on Friday with an undisclosed illness. The team did say that Harvin’s ailment wasn’t related to the migraine headache problem he’s grappled with for several years. Frasier is taking a ‘wait and see’ approach:

“I know they’re evaluating Percy and determining what’s going on. My first question like your first question was, ‘Is it a migraine?’ They told me we’re evaluating the situation and we’ll let you know when we get back in. But everything that’s been indicated to me is he’s fine and nothing like what we’ve experienced in the past.”

With wide receiver Michael Jenkins out for the year, Frasier knows that the team has an issue at the position:

“Please, please, please let’s not go down that one. We need No. 12 out there.”

Harvin has 51 catches for 554 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also contributed 235 yards and a touchdown rushing. The Vikings are a -1′ point NFL betting favorite against the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow. The total on the game has been set at 37′. The Broncos have won four straight games while the slumping Vikings have lost three straight.
