We’ve known all along that Michael Vick w0uldn’t play at San Francisco on Sunday, but the Eagles have made it official naming Kevin Kolb the starter for the game.  Vick didn’t practice all week and won’t travel to San Francisco with the team.  Vick’s rib cartlidge injury is something that requires rest, but the hope is he’ll be back for Philly’s 10/17 home game against his old team, the Atlanta Falcons.  Eagles’ coach Andy Reid is one of the worst coaches in the league when it comes to not just saying what he means, so he’s hemmed and hawed all week and didn’t ‘officially’ rule Vick out until today.  Still, Kevin Kolb has expected to start since Vick was injured:

“I approached it like that all week, and that’s the way you have to do it, so it doesn’t change anything in my mind. But it just helps you focus in on that you’re the guy and you’ve got to go in and win.”

The Eagles also will be without cornerback Asante Samuel and wide receiver Riley Cooper–both suffered concussions against the Redskins last week.

Philadelphia did get some good news, as running back LeSean McCoy is expected to play despite having a broken rib.  Kolb confirmed that obvious–that McCoy is a tough dude:

“He’s tough as nails. I think we knew that long before, but he just proves it when he comes in last week and breaks it, in probably the second quarter I think, and never said a word about it. And of course, going and playing this week, too. It’s a tribute to him and how bad he wants it and how bad we all want it. We’re very focused to go win this game.”

Despite the injury situation, Kolb’s confidence level is high:

“It’s super high. And our team’s is super high. We know that we need to go in there and get this one. We had an unbelievable week of work. Our intensity level’s been through the roof, and I feel like we have a great game plan, so those three things need to combine into a victory.”
