As the ridiculous ‘dream team’ hype that surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles at the beginning of the NFL season starts to dissipate everyone now realizes that they’re a group of talented players who don’t play as a team. They’re a group of front runners with poor team chemistry, negligible leadership–on the field or the sidelines–and questionable toughness. And there’s no one who fits that description better than overrated quarterback Michael Vick. Vick suffered broken ribs in last weekend’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals and hasn’t practiced since. He’s almost certainly out for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Not that things are likely to be any worse without Vick, who rewarded the Eagles’ for a hefty contract by reverting to the mediocre, erratic quarterback he was in Atlanta. Actually, considering that the likely starter for Sunday is Vince “I scored 6 on the Wonderlick test” Young maybe they can get worse. In a typically boneheaded decision by Andy Reid, he’ll hand the keys to Vince Young instead of the competent Mike Kafka. Of course Reid has to play his insipid ‘Vick might play, I haven’t decided on a starter’ game:

“He’s feeling a little bit better. I’m not going to tell you he’s feeling great, but he’s feeling a little bit better.”

Reid says that while Vick hasn’t practiced, he has attended the meeting and gave a quote in which Vick has been credited with doing ‘brainwork’ for the first time in history:

“He’s done the brainwork, but I just want him resting that thing. I’m not worried about him being in shape or anything else. Let’s just see if it calms down a little bit.”

Although his teammates and coaches express confidence in Young, he doesn’t exactly instill much hope with quotes like this:

“It’s somewhat tough. It can be tough if you’re not paying attention and you’re not focused. One thing about Andy is he won’t let you not pay attention. He’s always going to be asking you questions. That’s the good thing about this team and (these coaches).”

“They’re always testing you.”

Vince Young won’t focus without Andy Reid’s guidance. Wonderful. The Eagles are +5 point NFL betting underdogs against the Giants with the total set at 45′.
