Top 5 Fantasy Football Wide Receivers
Added on Aug 18, 2010 by Barry in
#1 Andre Johnson, Houston Texans (101 receptions, 1,589 yards, 9 TDs)
The Houston Texans have been a team on the rise over the last two seasons and one of the main reasons for their new found success was the emergence of arguably the best wide receiver in the game in Andre Johnson. After leading the league in receiving yards for two straight seasons, Johnson is invaluable to fantasy owners as he can consistently put up big numbers on a weekly basis.
#2 Randy Moss, New England Patriots (83 receptions, 1,264 yards, 13 TDs)
As arguably one of the best wide receivers of all-time, Randy Moss always demands respect from his opponents as they throw double coverage at him all day long, but despite the coverage, Tom Brady always seems to find his go to guy and this season should be no different.
Last season was another somewhat off year for the New England Patriots, but they will be looking to get back on track this season with the kind of dominant offense they had back in the 2007-2008 season with 30, 40 and sometimes 50 point games on a weekly basis. This is great news for Moss as he could be poised for one of his best seasons of his Hall of Fame caliber career.
#3 Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts (100 receptions, 1,264 yards, 10 TDs)
Being Peyton Manning’s number one target has its perks and one of them is always having the opportunity to be threat in the endzone and putting up monster numbers on any given Sunday.
Now that Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon have become a threat in the passing game, Wayne might see more single coverage which could turn out to huge for his fantasy owners this season.
#4 Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys (81 receptions, 1,320 yards, 11 TDs)
Even though Miles Austin could turn out to be a one-year wonder, the Dallas Cowboys have Super Bowl aspirations this season and quarterback Tony Romo will continue to target him downfield. I fully expect some big performances out of Austin this season would could result in another career year for the up and coming wideout.
#5 Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals (97 receptions, 1,092 yards, 13 TDs)
At one point in time, Fitzgerald was considered the best wide receiver in the game and for good reason, but without Kurt Warner under center, the future of the Cardinals and this perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver is uncertain.
Despite no longer having one of the best quarterbacks in the game under center, Fitzgerald will still be Matt Leinart’s number one target in the offense and one of the best fantasy receivers this season. It might be a gamble, but well worth it as he should still put up good numbers.
Honorable Mentions: Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions; Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins; Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons; DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles; Anquan Boldin, Baltimore Ravens; Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati Bengals
