Top 5 Fantasy Football Tight Ends
Added on Aug 19, 2010 by Barry in
#1 Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts (100 receptions, 1,106 yards, 10 TDs)
The Indianapolis Colts will head into the 2010-2011 NFL regular season as the favorites to win it all and one of the main reasons for the Peyton Manning and company being the top dogs coming into the season is their extremely potent offense.
Last season tight end Dallas Clark became Peyton Manning’s favorite target in the offense as he put up numbers that rivaled some of the best wide receivers in the game. This season should be more of the same as the Colts have their sights set on getting back to the Super Bowl.
#2 Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys (94 receptions, 1,030 yards, 2 TDs)
Even though Witten didn’t impress anyone with his touchdown total last season, but he is still considered amongst the league’s best at his position and should put up solid fantasy numbers once again this year as the Dallas Cowboys offense could turn out to be one of the most potent offenses in the league.
#3 Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers (78 receptions, 965 yards, 13 TDs)
Last season the San Francisco 49ers had a breakout year as they were finally able to play consistently well on both sides of the football under new head coach Mike Singletary.
One of the biggest reasons for their success on offense was the emergence of tight end Vernon Davis who became Alex Smith’s favorite target. Davis may not have the yards like Clark, Witten and Gates, but that should change this season as he is poised to a have 1,000+ yards season with 10+ TDs.
#4 Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers (79 receptions, 1,157 yards, 8 TDs)
Over the past few years, Antonio Gates has been battling back and forth with Jason Witten as arguably the best tight end in the game, but even though he put up good numbers last season, he had somewhat of a down year for his standards.
This season the San Diego Chargers will be without star wideout Vincent Jackson for the first few games of the year and maybe even the entire season if he choses to continue holdout. Without Jackson, quarterback Philip Rivers will be looking to Gates to pick up the slack which means he could finish the season as the league’s top fantasy tight end.
#5 Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers (55 receptions, 676 yards, 5 TDs)
The Green Bay Packers are a very talented team on offense with arguably the best fantasy quarterback under center in Aaron Rodgers, but despite having some of the best offensive weapons in the game, most of the Packers receivers are considered nothing more than backups.
This season that will all change as tight end Jermichael Finley could have a breakout year as he continues to get a bigger role in the offense. So if the four guys ahead of him on this list are already taken and you need a tight end, Finely is your man!
Honorable Mentions: Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons; Brent Celek, Philadelphia Eagles; Chris Cooley, Washington Redskins; Owen Daniels, Houston Texans; Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders; Visanthe Shiancoe, Minnesota Vikings
