Just as he did in his record-setting 2007 campaign, Tom Brady has once again won the AP Offensive Player of the Year for 2010. Despite the honor, as was the case in 2007, his Patriots team failed to win the Super Bowl. Hmm… sounds to me like the Pats are better off when Golden Boy Tom is good rather than great. Nevertheless, he seized his second career award by an overwhelming margin over second-place finisher Michael Vick.

Among his many individual accomplishments this season, Brady led the league in touchdown passes (36), passer rating (111.0), fewest interceptions among starters (4) and finished second in completion percentage (65.9%), behind only San Diego’s Philip Rivers.

The only thing he didn’t do was toss for 4000 yards, but his 3900 is nothing to spit at, especially considering he played the majority of the season without deep threat Randy Moss, who was jettisoned in early October for lollygagging more than usual.

As he always seems to do though, Tom made the most of what he had to work with. Rookie tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez combined to catch 87 passes and scored 16 touchdowns. He also turned little-known scatback Danny Woodhead into a household name and helped resurrect the fading career of former Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch. All in a season’s work for #12.

You could make a solid argument for Vick, who set career highs in passing yards, touchdown throws, passer rating and rushing touchdowns. However, his numbers are dwarfed next to Brady’s and he’s still Michael Vick, meaning the stench of incarceration hasn’t quite worn off completely.

Now all Tom has to do is figure out how to win another Lombardi Trophy, which believe it or not, he hasn’t done since February 2005. Yeah, six years ago. Doesn’t seem like that much time has passed. During that interval Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers have dominated the AFC and the NFL. The same Steelers vying for yet another title in five short days. Brady can’t be happy about that, but I’m sure Gisele will be right there to console him.
