Terrell Owens is like an unlucky penny. No matter what you do to get rid of him, he just keeps reappearing. Owens, who is still rehabbing from offseason knee surgery, has maintained all along he’d be ready to play at some point during the 2011 season. If his claims prove to be accurate, it looks as if he’ll have at least one team interested in acquiring his services. The Tennessee Titans.

According to head coach Mike Munchak, the Titans will definitely kick the tires on Owens when or if he’s healthy enough to return to the field.

“That’s something that at some point when (Owens’) health is better and he can pass a physical — people thought the midpoint of the season, maybe — he might be a guy that may be able to work out to prove where he’s at,” Munchak said on his radio show Tuesday, according to the Tennessean. “So of course us, or whoever else, is going to take a look, just like we have with other free agents, to see what kind of shape he’s in.”

However, Munchak went on to say if his current corps of wide receivers continue to progress over the next few weeks, it’s unlikely he’ll sign anyone, including Owens. The Titans are in a bit of a hole since Kenny Britt tore up his knee in Week 3.

Nate Washington has done an adequate job filling in as the number one target, but he lacks Britt’s downfield explosiveness and big play ability. Tight end Jared Cook and wide receiver Damian Williams are both talented, although neither has produced consistently.

One would think the Titans would’ve learned their lesson from the Randy Moss experiment a season ago. For his part, Owens has been on his best behavior in the last few years. He caught 72 balls for 983 yards and nine touchdowns in 2010 with Cincinnati.

The 3-2 Titans host Houston on Sunday.
